Portland, Oregon based sculptor/ fiber artist Maggie Casey uses thread to build volume and define space, often creating work that seems to defy gravity. She creates both large installations and smaller wood and fiber boxes. A graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, she has exhibited in Philadelphia, Maine, Maryland as well as Oregon. Casey was selected as one of 25 emerging artists to be a Searchlight Artist by The American Craft Council in 2008.
Harry Shearer
The Silent Echo Chamber
Circle Gallery: March 1 - May 14, 2011
The Silent Echo Chamber brings together videos compiled by artist — Harry Shearer, the film, television and radio personality and political commentator. While a writer and cast member on Saturday Night Live in the 1980s, Shearer discovered the satellite news feed. Fascinated by this wealth of material, Shearer began to collect and post what he considers “Found Objects” on his own website. Each video includes well-known media and political figures captured in those awkward moments before going live on the air. Shearer does not alter the expressions and actions of the figure, leaving the viewer to seek their own meaning of the well-known personality in these little seen very normal moments.
